For Amy

I fell in love with you because of how you make me feel: Grounded. Centered. Seen and heard. Like the future has no limits.

But I fall more deeply in love with you every day as I discover who you are. You are so gentle, and yet so fiercely commited to your principles. You are so quiet, and yet so brazen in your expressions of joy. You are so understanding, and yet so clearly passionate about your desire to learn and grow and change.

And these are the qualities of a person I want to spend the rest of my life with.

What excites me most about marrying you is the thought of everything we will build together—a home, a way of being that is wholly and exclusively ours, a history, a legacy. Starting today, the future is ours to shape. We will bend it toward love, toward commitment to family and friends, and toward the idea that the most important gift we have to offer is compassion.

I don't know what I did to convince you agree to this, but I promise to never stop doing it. I promise to be your home, to give your heart a place to rest. I promise to challenge you. I promise to love you as much as you love a sale at Kohl's with a coupon on top of it.

Above all else, I promise that you will have a partner in me. You can always count on me. You can always turn to me. You can always expect to feel heard by me. You can always expect to be your best self with me. And you can always expect that wherever you go, whatever you do, I will be right here waiting for you.

I love you.
